Grande Premio Brasil Offers Breeders' Cup Turf Berth

Led by the Haras Doce Vale's Brazilian Filly Triple Crown winner No Regrets (BRZ) and multiple Group 1 winner Haras Santa Maria Araras's Daffy Girl (BRZ), a field of 18 runners has been entered for Sunday's 1 1/2-mile Grande Premio Brasil (G1) at Gavea for an automatic starting position into this year's $4 million Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) through the international Breeders' Cup Challenge.
The Breeders' Cup Challenge is an international series of 81 stakes races whose winners receive free berths and fees paid into a corresponding race of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held, for the first time, at the Del Mar race track near San Diego, California, on November 3-4.
As a part of the benefits of the Challenge series, the Breeders' Cup will pay the entry fees for the winner of the Grande Premio Brasil to start in the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf. Breeders' Cup will also provide a $40,000 travel allowance for all starters based outside of North America to compete in the World Championships. The Challenge winner must be nominated to the Breeders' Cup program by the Championships' pre-entry deadline of Oct. 23 to receive the rewards.
Trained by Venacia Nahid, No Regrets won the all three of her starts at Gavea the year, taking the one-mile Grande Premio Henrique Possalo (G1), on February 12 by two lengths, followed by a four-length win in the 1 1/4-mile Grande Premio Diana (G1), and another four-length romp in the 1 1/2--mile Grande Premio Zelia Gonzaga Peixoto de Castro (G1) on April 9 to capture the Brazilian Filly Triple Crown.
The 3-year-old daughter of Fluke, has won five of her six career starts, but will be facing males for the first time.
The 4-year-old filly Daffy Girl (BRZ) has won 4 of 7 career starts, including two Group 1 wins last year, first over fillies in the Grande Premio Diana, and then a 6 3/4 length win over males in the 1/2 mile Grande Premio Cruzeiro do Sul (G1), both at Gavea. The year, the bay daughter of Wild Event has made just one start, finishing second in the 1 1/2-mile Grande Premio Sao Paulo (G1) on May 7 at Cidade Jardim for trainer V.A. Oliveira.
Also expected to be formidable is the entry of the 3-year-old Emperor Roderic (BRZ) from Stud Perdudu and Stud Sweet Dani's 3-year-old Enologo (BRZ) from trainer Ronaldo Lima. Emperor Roderic and Enologo finished first and third respectively in the 1 1/2-mile Grande Premio Cruzeiro do Sul on April 9.

The 2017 Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, now in its 11th year, is being held at many of the world's premier racetracks in 13 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, France, Japan, Germany, Ireland, Peru, South Africa and the United States.
The Grande Premio Brasil is the fourth Breeders' Cup Challenge race to be run in South America this year. On May 1, Kiriaki (ARG) won the Gran Premio Criadores (G1) at Palermo and earned an automatic berth into the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1); Ordak Dan (ARG) won the Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1) at San Isidro on May 25 in Buenos Aires to gain a free berth into the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf, and Top Casablanca (CHI) won the Gran Premio Club Hipico Falabella (G1) on May 28 in Santiago, Chile, securing an automatic starting position into the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1).
