Two Fillies Fastest Workers in OBS Under Tack Finale

A filly from the first crop of sprinter Poseidon's Warrior   and an Astrology   filly posted bullet works June 10 as Ocala Breeders’ Sales concluded its under tack show in preparation for next week’s 2-year-olds and horses in training sale.

The Poseidon’s Warrior filly, named La Quarta, breezed the one-eighth of a mile fastest time of :09 4/5 and is consigned as Hip 741 by McKathan Bros., agent. The filly is a half sister to the speedy X Y Jet, a multiple grade 3 winner in the United States, who finished second in last year’s Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored By Gulf News (G1) at Meydan Racecourse.

Entered in the OBS April sale, the filly also breezed an eighth of a mile in :09 4/5 but was withdrawn before the auction due to a veterinary issue that has since been cleared up, according to Kevin McKathan.

"She's real fast, has been all year," McKathan said. "She's always been a stone cold runner. Her half brother finished second in the Golden Shaheen so she was meant to be fast."

Produced from the three-time winning Lost Soldier mare Soldiersingsblues, the filly was bred in Florida by Didier Plasencia and was bought back twice at public auction as a weanling and as a yearling.

The Astrology filly (Hip 631) that had Saturday’s best time of :20 4/5 for a quarter-mile on behalf of consignor Tom McCrocklin is making her sale debut.

Bred in Kentucky by Mandy Pope’s Whisper Hill Farm, the filly was produced from the winning Giant's Causeway   mare Dreamingly and is from the female family of grade 1 winners Raven’s Song, No Matter What, and Rainbow View, as well as grade 2 winner and sire E Dubai. McCrocklin bought the filly for $50,000 from the Summerfield consignment to last year’s OBS August yearling sale.

"I really liked the female side of the family and I love the horse physically," McCrocklin said. "I was taking a shot with Astrology (whose first foals are 3-year-olds) and the price was right."

The Florida horseman said that unlike many of the OBS June entrants, the Astrology filly had not been entered in any other 2-year-old sale because she needed time to grow.

"She was a big filly who was growing, and we didn't want to force-feed her but wanted to let her grow into herself," McCrocklin said. "She is just a big racey and scopey filly. She is a beautiful horse. If they (buyers) liked the breeze, they are going to love her at the barn. This is her first sale and I think a lot of buyers like that she hasn't gone through the ring and not sold for one reason or another. I would think she is one of the standouts."

The June 13-14 OBS auction, which closes out the 2-year-olds in training sale season, begins at 10:30 a.m. EDT daily.
