Grade 1 Winner Wrote to Shuttle to New Zealand

Northwest Stud of Ocala, Fla., is sending 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) winner Wrote   to New Zealand for the shuttle season, it was announced June 16. The son of High Chaparral will arrive at Highview Stud in mid-July after spending a quarantine period in Kentucky. 

Wrote is the only High Chaparral to win a grade 1 at 2, and has been standing at Northwest Stud four seasons. He was bred to 50 mares his first year and his initial crop will reach the races this season.

After he won twice in Ireland at 2 for Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith, Wrote finished third in the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (G2) at Newmarket, then came to the United States in 2011 to score a 2 1/4-length victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs. As a 3-year-old, he finished third in two grade 2 races, the UAE Derby Sponsored by The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group at Meydan Racecourse, and the Derrinstown Stud Derby at Leopardstown. He retired after 11 starts with earnings of $815,943.

Wrote's sire, High Chaparral, won the Eclipse Award as champion turf horse twice, after he captured the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T) in 2002 and 2003. He won the Epsom Derby (G1) and Irish Derby (G1) and was named champion 3-year-old colt in England, and champion 3-year-old colt and champion older male in Ireland. He has sired 11 champions in seven countries. Wrote's dam is the Green Desert mare Desert Classic, and her family tree includes such names as Nureyev, Sadler's Wells, and Blame  . 

Arrangements for the stallion's Southern Hemisphere stud career were made between Alfredo Lichoa of Northwest Stud and Brent Gillovic of Gillovic Bloodstock.
