Frankie Dettori will sit out this year's Royal Ascot meeting with an arm injury sustained last week at Yarmouth, according to a statement from the Italian rider.
Dettori is the leading active rider at Royal Ascot with 56 winners, and was well-subscribed for this year's meeting, with many of his prospective mounts for American trainers.
John Velazquez was named to sub for Dettori aboard American Patriot for trainer Todd Pletcher in Tuesday's Queen Anne Stakes (G1) and for Wesley Ward on Lady Aurelia in the King's Stand Stakes (G1) and Nootka Sound in the Windsor Castle Stakes. Edgar Prado took the reins from Dettori on Ward's Elizabeth Darcy in the Windsor Castle.
"I've been trying so hard to get fit for today but had to accept this morning it wasn't going to happen," Dettori said in the statement released by Ascot Racecourse. "I've got to have physio and get it properly looked after, so won't be at Ascot this week. For me that's soul-destroying, as it's the most important week of the year.
"I'll be counting down the days until next year."
