Spendthrift Farm announced June 28 that grade 1 winners Archarcharch   and Tizway   have been sold and will take up stud duties in South Korea. The deal was brokered by agent Jun Park.

"Korea is always looking for opportunities to improve the country's breeding program," said Park. "These stallions are a wonderful addition to Korea's stallion roster, and we are excited to be able to offer them to Korean breeders."

Ned Toffey, Spendthrift's general manager, said it is standard practice this time of year for agents to inquire about stallions that might be available. In both cases, Toffey said, the stallions were presented to the original owners first, but agreements could not be reached.

As part of the sales agreement, Spendthrift secured first right of refusal should the new owner ever decide to sell the stallions. In addition, Archarcharch and Tizway will return to the U.S. at the conclusion of their respective careers in the breeding shed.

Archarcharch, winner of the Arkansas Derby (G1), has sired nine black-type stakes winners to date, including grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner Toews On Ice. The son of Arch stood this season for $6,000.

Tizway, winner of the 2011 Whitney Invitational Handicap and Metropolitan Mile (both G1), also has sired nine black-type winners, including grade 1-placed stakes winner Coasted and multiple Canadian stakes winner Tiz Imaginary. The son of Tiznow   stood for $7,500 this season.
