Empyrean Stable's Zipessa will be seeking her first victory of season and try to end a five-race skid dating back to last season when the 5-year-old daughter of City Zip starts in the $200,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3T) at Delaware Park July 8.
The 1 3/8-mile affair for fillies and mares has attracted a field of nine.
It's not like Zipessa hasn't delivered quality starts in the five efforts since her win in last year's Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes (G3T) July 4, 2016 at Parx Racing. She earned grade 1 placings in last year's Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington International Racecourse and in the Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Michael Stidham, Zipessa enters off a third-place finish in the Eatontown Stakes (G3T) June 3 at Monmouth Park, which marked her second start this season. Zipessa has a record of four wins from 12 career starts with earnings of $$428,250.
Trainer Graham Motion has entered Merry Fox Stables' homebred Guilty Twelve and Michael Dubb, Great Point Stables, and Bethlehem Stables' Happyness.
Guilty Twelve has a career record of three wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings of $143,806. In her only outing this season, the 5-year-old daughter of Giant's Causeway posted a nose victory in a 1 1/4-mile allowance race at Belmont Park on May 19.
"She has been very competitive," Motion said. "She came back and won a two-other-than in first race back after having the winter off. We have had this race in mind. She is a really well bred filly and it would be nice to get her some black-type. But more importantly, the timing is very good for her and this race is a good fit for her."
Happyness has a career record of three wins, a second and a third from six starts with earnings of $118,607. The 5-year-old daughter of Verglas (IRE) broke her maiden in France in 2015.
"This is the first time, she will be running for me," Motion said. "She has been doing well and the timing of this race is great for her. We like the way she has been progressing and we are excited to get her to the track."
