From Florida to Texas, freshman sire Wrote was represented by his first winner July 8 when High Providence won the first race on the Saturday card at Lone Star Park.
Racing for Run For The Cross and trainer Jason Meaux, the 2-year-old colt made a strong rally five wide under jockey Adrian Ramos and won a $21,000 maiden special weight going 7 1/2 furlongs on firm turf at the Texas track. Off at odds of 12-1, he returned $26.60, $7.40, and $5.60. Favored Sitting Bull held for second, 1 1/2 lengths back of the winner.
Bred by Nina Theodora Camperlengo out of the winning Military mare Gonna, High Providence was a $2,500 purchase by 4M Ranch, Agent, from Sue Vacek's consignment to the 2016 Ocala Breeders' Sales winter mixed sale.
Wrote, winner of the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T), is the only son of two-time Eclipse Award winner High Chaparral at stud in North America. The 7-year-old stands at Northwest Stud near Ocala, Fl., where his 2017 fee was $3,000 live foal.
