Kimberlea K, the first winner for her sire Indian Evening, is now two-for-two and her sire's first black-type stakes winner after outrunning a group of eight males in the July 8 Everett Nevin Stakes at Oak Tree at Pleasanton.
The California-bred filly, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, broke her maiden June 17 at Golden Gate Fields in a five-furlong maiden, in which she went gate to wire to win by 5 1/4 lengths.
In Saturday's 5 1/2-furlong test, Kimberlea K shuffled between horses to gain a short lead just after the break and then set fractions of :22.12 and :45.76 through the first half-mile. Under urging from jockey Frank Alvarado, the filly edged clear in the stretch to stop the clock in 1:05.27 over a track rated fast.
A homebred for KMN Racing, Kimberlea K is out of the Pure Prize mare No Better Terms.
Indian Evening only raced three times as a 2-year-old for his owner Vinery Stables, winning his debut and the Swynford Stakes at Woodbine, and placing third in the Three Chimney's Saratoga Special Stakes (G2).
The son of Indian Charlie was purchased by Ellen Jackson's Victory Rose Thoroughbreds in California, where he has stood since 2014. His 2017 fee was $3,000. Bred by Summer Wind Farm, Indian Evening is out of an Unbridled's Song half sister to 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick.
