Eskiminzin (outside) wins on debut at Woodbine by a neck July 9

Jecara Farms' homebred Eskiminzin became the first winner for his sire Cold Harbor when he took a $45,000 maiden special weight for juveniles at Woodbine July 9 by a neck.

Sunday's five-furlong event was the first start for the Analisa Delmas-trained 2-year-old colt. Eskiminzin broke slowly out of the gate under jockey Patrick Husbands, but picked it up and raced mid-pack before rallying in the stretch to catch Water Polo at the wire. The final time was :59.44 for the five furlongs over a fast all weather track. Odds-on favorite Legal Gump finished third in the 11-horse field of Ontario-sired maidens.

Eskiminzin is out of the winning Open Forum mare Ms. Forum. He was offered at Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Ontario Division's 2016 yearling sale but was a $8,393 buy-back.

Cold Harbor was a hard-knocking earner of more than $370,000 in 60 lifetime starts, all at Woodbine mostly in allowance and claiming company. He raced from ages 3-9 and finished his career with a 6-11-9 record.

The now 12-year-old son of Distorted Humor   stands at Fieldstone Farms in Ontario, whose colors he carried on the track. Bred by WinStar Farm in Kentucky, Cold Harbor is out of Birr, a three-time stakes winner and multiple graded placed daughter of Farma Way.
