Lindey Wade celebrates 1,000 wins

Jockey Lindey Wade reached a milestone July 9 when he scored his 1,000th North American career victory in the seventh race at Lone Star Park aboard Karen and Richard Boyer's Firepit Queen.

In the $23,000 allowance race going 5 1/2 furlongs, the 3-year-old daughter of To Honor and Serve   raced in the back of the three-horse field before traveling in the three-path around the turn and edging clear in the stretch to win by 2 1/4 lengths. The final time was 1:05.75 on a track rated fast.

Born in New Orleans and raised in Haughton, La., Wade began his riding career in 2007 at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. His first win at the Bossier City, La., track came May 17 of that year. He has ridden a total of 7,747 races. His career earnings total $18,627,750.

Wade won his first riding title at Sam Houston Race Park in 2011 when he and Quincy Hamilton ended the season in a tie for the most wins.

Wade then moved his tack to Lone Star Park for the 2011 season where he finished fifth in the standings that year. In 2012, he finished second behind Lone Star Park Hall of Fame jockey and all-time win leader, Cliff Berry. The following year he edged past Berry by seven wins to capture his first and only riding title there. Since then he has finished in the top five in the standings at Lone Star from 2014-2016. He is currently in fourth place in the 2017 rider standings. The season ends July 30.
