Roly Poly All the Way in Falmouth  

Roly Poly went right to the lead in the July 14 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (G1) at Newmarket and powered home first by 1 1/4 lengths over Wuheida.

 

Wuheida, under William Buick, moved to challenge Roly Poly with a furlong left in the Falmouth—but Ryan Moore quickly found another gear on the favorite and went on to win without further fuss, running one mile over good to firm going in 1:36.01.

 

Roly Poly, a War Front   filly out of the Galileo mare Misty For Me, finished second to stablemate Winter in both the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas (G1) at the Curragh and the Coronation Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot.

 

The Coolmore-owned filly trained by Aidan O'Brien finished ninth as the favorite in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Santa Anita Park, only 4 3/4 lengths behind winner New Money Honey, whose career blossomed with a victory in the July 8 Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1T).

 

Freed from the shadow of Winter in the Falmouth, Roly Poly found another potential rival for later in the season in Wuheida, a Godolphin filly by Dubawi. Wuheida, trained by Charlie Appleby, ran strongly on the outside of the seven-filly field in the Falmouth in her first start since winning the Total Prix Marcel Boussac last October at Chantilly.

 

Arabian Hope, a Distorted Humor   filly out of the Bernardini   mare Achieving, also ran well to finish third under jockey Josephine Gordon. Saeed bin Suroor trains Arabian Hope for Godolphin. 

 

The first five finishers in the Falmouth were the five 3-year-olds. The two 4-year-olds, each giving up 10 pounds, finished sixth and seventh.
