Brexit Revenge becomes the first winner for I Want Revenge as she breaks her maiden at odds of 13-1
It seems like ages ago that I Want Revenge was scratched on the day of the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1), when he was the morning-line favorite.
Eight years after winning the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) in dramatic fashion, which would be his final victory, the son of Stephen Got Even found the winner's circle again July 15 with the juvenile filly Brexit Revenge.
Sent off at odds of 13-1 at Monmouth Park in her debut for trainer and co-owner John Stephens on a track labeled good, Brexit Revenge rallied along the rail in the sixth race, a $36,000 off-the-turf five-furlong event, to win by a length against fellow maidens. She completed the distance in a final time of :59.70.
Stephens also bred the filly with co-owner Patrick Madden, out of the Bellamy Road mare Queens'college Eng.
I Want Revenge finished his career with earnings of $928,000 for a partnership that included IEAH Stables. He currently stands at Millenium Farms in Kentucky for $5,000.
Also in the winner's circle for the first time Saturday as the first winner for her sire New Year's Day was Special Portion. The Iowa-bred filly made every pole a winning one in her debut, a $9,700 maiden special weight five-furlong race at Arapahoe Park, where she drew off to win by 2 1/2 lengths in a final time of 1:01.36.
Bred by H. Allen Poindexter out of the Awesome Again mare Awesomeatthetrack, Special Portion races for Kim Oliver Racing Stable. She was purchased at the 2016 Keeneland September yearling sale for $10,000 by Molly Pearson. She was consigned by Four Star Sales.
New Year's Day, winner of the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, was campaigned by Gary and Mary West. He earned $1,154,000 in his three-race career. He stands for $3,500 at Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Kentucky.
