Treve an Arc Favorite After Prix Vermeille

Unbeaten French Oaks (Fr-I) winner Treve uncoiled her electric burst of speed and wore down front-runner Wild Coco to win the Qatar Prix Vermeille Sept. 15 at Longchamp.
Carrying Frankie Dettori to his first group I victory in a year, Treve crossed the finish line 1 3/4 lengths to the good of Wild Coco, with Tasaday another 3 1/2 lengths back in third.
Relaxing off a moderate early pace laid down by Wild Coco, Treve uncorked a sizzling burst of speed in the final furlong for an authoritative victory. It was her fourth win from as many career starts for trainer Criquette Head-Maarek and the Head family’s Haras de Quesnay, which also bred the Motivator filly.
The race is the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) trial for females, and Treve will try to become the fifth filly since 1920 to complete the Vermeille/Arc double in the same year. Zarkava in 2008 was the most recent to win both races in the same year.
Last year’s Arc winner, Solemia, finished third in the Vermeille before stunning Japanese star Orfevre to win in the closing strides.
Treve’s Prix Vermeille win at 4-5 odds was impressive enough to convince Irish bookmaker Paddy Power to install her at the 4-1 favorite for the Arc, to be run Oct. 6 at Longchamp. She is expected to be supplement to the race.
Treve covered the Prix Vermeille, run at the Arc distance of 2,400 meters (about 1 12 miles), in 2:36.82. She showed her explosive turn of foot to win Prix de Diane (Fr-I, French Oaks) by four lengths June 16 at Chantilly in her stakes debut and previous start.
Treve’s dam is the winning Anabaa mare Trevise, a full sister to United States stakes winner Tsigane, who was grade I-placed. Her second dam, Trevillari, is a full sister to French group I winner Treble. Fourth dam Trillion was champion in the United States and Europe. Treve is a half sister to French group II-placed Trois Rois.
