April Fog breaks her maiden at Finger Lakes Oct. 25

The Lumber Guy had his first winner Oct. 25, when his 2-year-old daughter April Fog won a maiden special weight in her third start at Finger Lakes for trainer Mark Tasso and owner Michael Di Tomasso.

The filly finished second in her two prior starts at the Farmington, N.Y., track, after setting the pace in both. She again led the way in Wednesday's 5 1/2-furlong test, but this time opened up by five lengths in the stretch and finished 1 3/4 lengths in front at the wire.

Bred in New York by Spendthrift Farm, April Fog is the second foal out of the Forestry mare Catinatree, who now has produced two winners from two to race.

New York's 2012 Horse of the Year, The Lumber Guy was trained by Michael Hushion for owner Barry K. Schwartz. A grade 1 winner at 3, he took the 2012 Vosburgh Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park over a field that included Justin Phillip  and Poseidon's Warrior

The son of Grand Slam won the Jerome Stakes (G2) in April of that year and went on to finish second in the Xpressbet Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) behind Trinniberg

As a 4-year-old The Lumber Guy finished off the board in both the Vosburgh and the Breeders' Cup Sprint. He was retired to Keane Stud Operations in New York in 2014. He accumulated a record of 4-2-1 from 13 starts and $790,300 in earnings.

The Lumber Guy stood 2017 in the Republic of Korea.
