Silver Bay holds off Starship Bonita to win the Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Gulfstream Park West

Freshman sire Currency Swap  had his first black-type stakes winner Nov. 11, when Richlyn Farms' Silver Bay led the way through the $75,000 Juvenile Fillies Sprint Stakes for Florida-breds at Gulfstream Park West.

The filly pushed her way to the front, was challenged several times going six and a half furlongs, and held on gamely to win by a neck in 1:19.37 over a fast track.

Silver Bay, out of the Trippi mare Ginny's Design, was bred in Florida by Renee Parks-James, Melvin James, and Judy Karlin. She is now two-for-two at the South Florida track, after breaking her maiden Oct. 27 by 5 1/2 lengths.

Woodford Thoroughbreds' Currency Swap, a grade 1-winning son of High Cotton , had his first winner May 10, when R Paper Chase led gate-to-wire to win her debut.

Campaigned by Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence, Currency Swap picked up his grade 1 score in just his second start, taking the 2011 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course as a 2-year-old. In that race he defeated eventual champion sprinter Trinniberg  and 3-year-old champion of 2012 I'll Have Another .

Currency Swap also won the 2012 Amsterdam Stakes (G2), and placed second in the Woody Stephens Stakes (G2). He retired with earnings of $459,300 and a record of 4-2-1 from 10 starts.

With a $2,500 fee for 2017, the young stallion now has three winners from nine to race.
