Win the War Dominates Glorious Song Stakes

Win the War waited patiently to make her move around fading favorite Grace and Dignity, who set a quick early pace, and drew off to a 11 1/4-length win in the $100,000 Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine. 

The Nov. 19 seven-furlong test for 2-year-old fillies was the second win in as many starts for the daughter of War Front , who is trained by Mark Casse for owners Gary Barber and John Oxley. 

"I just kept my eyes on Eurico (da Silva aboard Grace and Dignity)," said winning rider Patrick Husbands, commenting on his early three-wide stalking position in the race. "Down the back, they were going pretty quick and she was doing it pretty relaxed until the inside horse came up inside of me and she grabbed on to the bridle. She was doing everything easy.

"I went by Eurico so easy, but I didn't know how much horse he had. So when I went by him so easy, I tried to jump his filly hoping that his filly didn't come back. At the end of the day, my filly drove away."

In Sunday's event, Grace and Dignity jumped out to take the early lead and was immediately pressured by longshot Enchanted Tale. Win the War, Perfection Cat, and Star Hunter raced in a tight pack, six lengths back from the leader, with Madame X. trailing. 

After the first quarter-mile in :21.90, Enchanted Tail dropped back as Win the War and Star Hunter moved by her to assume second and third, respectively. The half-mile went in :44.38.

Win the War moved to the outside of Grace and Dignity on the turn and took over as the field entered the stretch. A tiring Grace and Dignity was no match for Win the War who pulled away to score by open lengths. The final time was 1:21.52 over the all-weather track. 

Perfection Cat nosed out Star Hunter for third. Madame X. and Enchanted Tale completed the order of finish. 

The winner returned $11.20 and $2.70. There was no show wagering. 

Bred by Tada Nobutaka in Kentucky, out of the graded stakes-placed Carson City mare City Sister, Win the War was a $700,000 purchase at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale. She is a half sister to grade 2 winner Dixie City (Dixie Union). 

In her only other outing, Win the War scored by a neck in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event Oct. 20 at Woodbine. With Sunday's win, she increased her earnings to $76,309.
