Senior Investment, winner of this year’s Lexington Stakes (G3) who went on to run third in the Preakness (G1) and fifth in the Belmont Stakes (G1), returns to dirt after a summer switch to turf and synthetic as the highweight in the $200,000 Discovery Stakes (G3) Nov. 25 for 3-year-olds going nine furlongs at Aqueduct.
The son of Discreetly Mine, who will give between four and eight pounds to his five foes, owns two wins from eight starts this year for owner Fern Circle Stables and trainer Kenny McPeek. After a win early in the season in an allowance-optional claimer at Oaklawn Park, Senior Investment was sent to the TwinSpires.com Louisiana Derby (G2), where he checked in sixth. He then took the Lexington at odds of 11-1 before his pair of classic runs.
Switched to the turf for a run in the Belmont Derby (G1T), Senior Investment failed to fire and finished 10th. In the Ontario Derby on Tapeta at Woodbine, he landed fourth.
“He’s had a really solid year outside the Belmont Derby,” McPeek said. “He’s shown plenty of ability and has run well on the dirt. He’s been training well into this race and we’re looking forward to this race and building toward a 4-year-old campaign for him.”
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin will send out True Timber and Spieth in the Discovery. True Timber ran third in the Sir Barton in May. Spieth was an impressive maiden winner at Saratoga Race Course and has a pair of placings to his credit since.
