Ontario-bred Wonder Gadot and Pennsylvania-bred Daisy head a field of eight 2-year-old fillies in the $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes (G2) Dec. 2 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
The Mark Casse-trained Wonder Gadot comes into the 1 1/8-mile race off a sixth-place finish in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) Nov. 4.
"She's doing great," Casse said. "We sent her to Ocala after the Breeders' Cup, and got her ready for the race, then we shipped her up there on Sunday to Aqueduct."
Gary Barber's Wonder Gadot, a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro , broke her maiden on the grass in allowance company first time out by four lengths at Woodbine. A jump straight to top company at the Canadian track produced a third-place effort over the turf in the Sept. 17 Natalma Stakes (G1T), which she followed up with a six-length victory over the all-weather track in the Oct. 7 Mazarine Stakes (G3) at 1 1/16 miles.
"She should've been third in the Breeders' Cup. Chad (Brown's) filly (Separationofpowers) came out and stopped us cold, and probably cost us third place, but she ran well," Casse said. "She did good. We think the (Demoiselle distance) will be good for her. It's just her second start on dirt, but the field is coming along well, it's a good race, so we'll see."
Wonder Gadot will break from post 3 with Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez aboard.
Fox Hill Farms' Daisy has won her first two starts by a combined 12 3/4 lengths for trainer John Servis. The Blame filly took a six furlong maiden special weight Oct. 9 at Park Racing by eight lengths and then moved up in class to win the Nov. 3 Tempted Stakes (G3) going one mile at Aqueduct.
Servis will also send out Cash is King's Maurer Power. The Violence filly won her July 15 debut at Delaware Park and returned to win a 6 1/2-furlong allowance over the main track at Parx Oct. 21.
"Everything is going real well, but I have a feeling one of them won't be undefeated after Saturday," Servis joked. "They're both nice fillies. I hate racing them against each other, but there really wasn't much of a choice. It's brutal.
"Daisy has just matured, she's gotten better," he added. "She's just training great. Maurer Power, we've always been kind of high on her. She didn't show a whole lot in the morning, but she went out and broke her maiden, then we gave her a freshening. She really just figured it all out. They're both going farther in distance now, but I think they can handle it without a problem."
Daisy drew the rail and will be piloted by Kendrick Carmouche. Maurer Power will break from post 6 with jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.
Chester and Mary Broman's Held Accountable, who finished second in the one-mile Maid of the Mist Stakes Oct. 21, won her first two starts. After taking a maiden special weight at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 17 in her debut sprinting on the turf, the Exchange Rate filly came back Sept. 20 to win Belmont Park's Joseph A. Gimma Stakes going seven furlongs on the dirt.
