Champagne Room will start at Los Alamitos for the first time Sunday in the Bayakoa Stakes

Champagne Room, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2016, will try to secure her first graded stakes as a 3-year-old when she starts in the $200,000 Bayakoa Stakes (G2) Dec. 3 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Campaigned by a partnership that includes Sharon Alesia, Robin Christensen, Ciaglia Racing, Exline-Border, and Gulliver Racing, Champagne Room enters Sunday's 1 1/16-mile test for fillies and mares off a sixth-place finish in the Nov. 3 Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) at Del Mar. Trained by Peter Eurton, the daughter of Broken Vow  led that 1 1/8-mile test through six furlongs in 1:12.50 before fading.

The Distaff was just the third start of the season for Champagne Room, who finished third in the Feb. 5 Las Virgenes Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park then didn't race again until Sept. 24, when she posted a gate-to-wire victory in the Remington Park Oaks.

Champagne Room knocked down last year's divisional championship by winning the 14 Hands Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita. A stakes winner at three different tracks, as she also won last year's Sorrento Stakes (G2) at Del Mar, Champagne Room will start at Los Alamitos for the first time.

The Bayakoa will be run at Los Alamitos for the first time since 2014. The race wasn't offered in 2015 and was run last year at Del Mar, as a handicap. Prior to 2014, the Bayakoa, originally known as the Silver Belles Handicap, was contested at Hollywood Park.

Despite the changes in the race, trainer Bob Baffert has been able to find a good fit in recent years, and he'll try for a third straight victory in the race with LNJ Foxwoods' Constellation, who won last year's La Brea Stakes (G1) when she was trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. Baffert won the 2014 Bayakoa with Tiz Midnight and last year's race with Vale Dori.
