In response to the terrible events in Southern California and in particular at San Luis Rey Downs, Coolmore Stud and owner Mike Repole will donate a non-guaranteed season to sire Uncle Mo , who is slated to stand the upcoming season for a fee of $125,000.
Coolmore America general manager Dermot Ryan said, "Everyone at Coolmore has been moved by what we have seen happen in Southern California and we hope by donating this season we will be able to provide some comfort to those who need it most."
All bids should be submitted in writing through the sales team at Ashford Stud (Adrian Mansergh Wallace (adrianmw@coolmore.com, 859-327-8302) and cc Gary King (garyking@thetdn.com)) by Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. ET. Proceeds raised will be donated to the horsemen and horses affected by this tragedy through the Horses First Fund administered by the Thoroughbred Charities Of America and founded by LNJ Foxwoods.
Stonestreet Farms announced Dec. 8 via Twitter that they will be donating $10,000 to the fund, in addition to 10% of any purses earned in the next 10 days. Their Curlin filly Valadorna was the first to add to that goal Friday, taking an allowance optional-claiming race by 5 3/4 lengths at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
Responding to the gesture by Stonestreet, Jamie Roth of LNJ Foxwoods, along with Sagamore Racing, Lavin Family Foundation, the Warden Family, and Keeneland each added that they would match the $10,000 donation. Rick Gold, an owning partner with Little Red Feather Racing, also announced he and his wife Marcia would match the $10,000 in memory of Oddsmaker, a promising unraced 2-year-old the partnership lost in the fire.
Owner James McIngvale posted on his Gallery Racing Twitter account: "We want to donate, send mattresses and any other furniture needs to the brave men and women who saved so many horses yesterday and simultaneously lost everything they had ..."
GoFundMe accounts have been opened for the San Luis Rey fire by The Stronach Group and Thoroughbred Charities of America. As of 6 p.m. ET, more than $310,000 and $35,300 had been raised by each, respectively.
