River Dancer , a graded stakes-placed son of Pioneerof the Nile , will stand the 2018 season at Breakway Farm near Dillsboro, Ind., it was announced Dec. 8.
"We are thrilled to stand the first son of Pioneerof the Nile in Indiana," the farm stated in its announcement. "Not only is this handsome horse impeccably bred, but he was a very talented racehorse who was highly weighted on the Experimental Free Handicap at 2."
River Dancer, who is owned by Michael Power's Bend Or Thoroughbreds U.S.A, won his first start as a juvenile for Z R J Stables at Belmont Park, going six furlongs on the turf in 1:09.81.
River Dancer was soon tested at two turns in the With Anticipation Stakes (G2T) at Saratoga Race Course, where he finished second. Behind him in the field was eventual grade 1 winner We Miss Artie .
His potential as racehorse was never fully realized because he badly tore a suspensory ligament in the With Anticipation. River Dancer is a half brother to two black-type winners: grade 1-placed Big Apple Daddy (Precise End) and stakes winner Golden Actor (Curlin).
"River Dancer offers Indiana breeders a unique combination of tremendous sire power, unquestioned racing class and speed, and outstanding conformation," the farm release said.
River Dancer will stand for a private fee, with concessions for stakes winning and producing mares.
