TVG to Have Enhanced Pacific Classic Coverage

Description:

TVG has announced it will feature a number of state-of-the-art production enhancements during its 90-minute special telecast of the TVG Pacific Classic (gr. I) at Del Mar Aug. 24.

The coverage in high definition, where available depending on carrier, begins at 4:30 p.m. PDT. Approximate post time for the 1 1/4-mile race is 5:46 p.m.

TVG, which is sponsoring the Pacific Classic for the fifth consecutive year, is adding several new cameras to its existing 17-camera Del Mar package, bringing the total to more than 20. Wireless cameras that are strategically placed among the race's participants will provide the audience with up close and personal views, TVG said in a release.

In addition, jockeys will wear mini-microphones to provide a unique perspective into the sounds of the game. Other enhancements include virtual graphics layered onto the track and Del Mar's architecture will provide additional handicapping information.

"The TVG Pacific Classic helps cap the summer racing season in Southern California and as such is one of the most important events on the national racing calendar," said Bhavesh Patel, TVG's senior vice president of television operations and marketing. "Also serving as a Breeders' Cup 'Win and You're In' event it's a perfect race for TVG to present with the state-of-the-art production elements that bring home all the excitement experienced right at the track."

Hosting the telecast from Del Mar will be Todd Schrupp, joined by Simon Bray, Paul Lo Duca, Matt Carothers, Mike Joyce, and Britney Eurton. The network's coverage of the Pacific Classic will also air on Prime Ticket, Fox Sports San Diego, MSG Plus, and Altitude (check local listings).

The 11 horses entered in the TVG Pacific Classic are defending champion Game On Dude, Clubhouse Ride, Frac Daddy, Ice Cream Truck, Imperative, Irish Surf, Majestic Harbor, Mystery Train (ARG), Shared Belief, Toast of New York, and You Know I Know.

In addition to the Pacific Classic, TVG will also present a pair of grade II races: the seven-furlong Pat O'Brien Stakes (gr. II) and the Del Mar Mile (gr. IIT).
