Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots announced Aug. 25 it is partnering with Coogan and Coogan, a Mandeville-based electronic video screen and scoreboard provider, for the purchase and installation of two new over-sized high-definition video screens for the historic track.
"We are excited about the ongoing and continued investments our parent company, Churchill Downs Incorporated, is making in our historic track," said Fair Grounds president Tim Bryant. "Coupled with over 700 television screens throughout our facility for customers to enjoy, these two video screens will further enhance the live racing experience here for years to come."
Provided by Coogan & Coogan, an authorized distributor of Trans-Lux Corporation, each outdoor LED video screen provides exceptional clarity and an accurate palette of 281 trillion colors day or night. Each board will enable a wide variety of capabilities including image magnification, replays, betting odds and race results, advertising, brand messaging, split screen and ticker displays, public service announcements, and many other creative elements.
"We are extremely excited about partnering with Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots in New Orleans by facilitating the purchase and installation of the two new TL Vision Video Display Boards. The Video Display Boards will allow racing fans to enjoy vivid racing images in the paddock area and all around the one-mile dirt track. The video boards, manufactured by the Trans-Lux Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa, will provide live racing, replays, photo finish enlargements, advertising, and animations to racing fans, said Jerry Coogan, owner of Coogan & Coogan, Inc.
Preliminary construction of the video board project is valued at more than $300,000 and is set to begin immediately with installation scheduled to be completed prior to the fall thoroughbred live race meet.
The infield video screen will be installed directly above the center of the current tote board and is located in the home stretch, just yards from the track finish lines. The board will be 23' 1" in length by 15' 9" high and permanently mounted to a ground-anchored support directly behind the tote board. The board provides for a 140-degree horizontal viewing angle for fans on the apron, grandstand, and clubhouse areas.
The paddock video screen will replace the current video board located over the paddock stalls. It will be 9' 5" in length and 9' 5" high. The paddock screen will also provide 140-degree horizontal viewing angle for fans on the ground floor, as well as all levels of the grandstand and clubhouse facing the track paddock.
