Boiling Springs Gets Second Chance

Description:

The Boiling Springs Stakes (gr. IIIT) which was on the Monmouth Park calendar for Aug. 30 but failed to fill, will get a second chance, according to racing secretary Michael Dempsey.

The $100,000 stakes for 3-year-old fillies which drew 17 nominations when it closed Aug. 16, will be re-drawn for the Labor Day card Sept. 1.

"With the foal crop being down, 3-year-old filly races are tough to draw," Dempsey said Aug. 28. "But we'll try again. We've filled them all so far," he said, referring to the stakes at the Jersey Shore track.

The Boiling Springs, at 1 1/8 miles, is competing with a pair of races in New York, the $100,000 Riskaverse Stakes at a mile Aug. 29 at Saratoga Race Course, and the nine-furlong Sands Point Stakes (gr. IIT), a $500,000 race at Belmont Park Sept. 13.

The Boiling Springs was first run in 1977 at Meadowlands. It moved to Monmouth Park in 2004.
