Ohio Moves to Increase Losing Mount Fees

Description:

The Ohio State Racing Commission Aug. 27 approved a resolution authorizing an administrative rule that would increase losing mount fees for jockeys at the state's racetracks.

The new schedule was included in gaming legislation that passed during the 2011-12 General Assembly session. The administrative rule will now go through a public comment period.

The minimum losing mount fee will increase to $50 for races with purses up to $5,999, according to the schedule. The fee would gradually increase to $105 for races with purses of $75,000 or more.

Jockeys' Guild officials said the current minimum in Ohio is $38. The legislation states that Thoroughbred tracks must implement the new schedule within one year of the start of video lottery terminal operations.
