Trainer Gary Capuano notched career victory 1,000 at Delaware Park Sept. 18. The milestone was when Non Stop Stable's Miss Speaker posted a neck triumph in the second race, a six furlong $5,000 claiming event. The 5-year-old Maryland-bred daughter of Oratory was ridden by Trevor McCarthy.
Capuano registered his first career victory with Superior Blend at Pimlico Race Course in 1988.The 49-year-old native of Washington, D.C., went on to train Captain Bodgit to a score in the Dover Stakes in 1996 before picking up wins in the Florida Derby (gr. I) and Wood Memorial (gr. I) in 1997. In his 1997 Triple Crown appearances, Captain Bodgit finished runner-up in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), and then third in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I).
