Wester Named CDI VP of Government Relations

Elizabeth Wester has been promoted to vice president of government relations for Churchill Downs Inc. and will be responsible for the development and implementation of the company's political and legislative strategies.
Wester's new role will commence immediately and she will report directly to William Carstanjen, CDI's chief executive officer. Wester joined CDI in April 2012 as senior director of government relations.
"During her tenure with CDI, Elizabeth has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to lead the company's multi-state and federal legislative advocacy, and we are pleased to announce this well-deserved promotion," Carstanjen said in a release.
Wester has more than a decade of extensive experience in government relations. Prior to joining CDI, Wester was an associate at Floridian Partners LLC, in Tallahassee, Fla. for five years, where she focused on state legislative advocacy for various clients. Prior to her time there, Wester served as vice president of government affairs for the Florida Bankers Association, where she advocated on behalf of the association at both the state and federal level.
A native of Tallahassee, Wester holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science and graduated with honors in history from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
