American Gal Takes Humana Distaff

American Gal pulled off what no other rival has against fellow grade 1 winner Finley'sluckycharm—she bested the daughter of Twirling Candy  in her home state.

After pressing Finley'sluckycharm through fractions of :23.03 and :45.63, American Gal put that one away and drew off handily in the lane to capture the $300,000 Humana Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs May 5.

The loss marked the first time Finley'sluckycharm was defeated in the state of Kentucky, as she was undefeated in six starts at Churchill Downs and two-for-two at Keeneland heading into the seven-furlong Humana Distaff.

American Gal, who made just her second start since August, covered the distance in 1:22.33 over a sealed, muddy surface. Ivy Bell came in second, with Lewis Bay third.
