Description:

Augustin Stable's Appealing Cat, part of an owner/trainer entry, rode the rail to win the $100,000 Mrs. Penny Stakes for Pennsylvania-bred fillies and mares on Pennsylvania's Day at the Races at Parx Racing Sept. 6 .

Ridden by Kendrick Carmouche for trainer Graham Motion, Appealing Cat finished first by 1 1/2 lengths over Lenape Rim, who had a head on Previous Honor in third. Cat's Holiday, the other half of the Augustin-owned/Motion-trained entry, finished third. The final time for 1 1/16 miles on firm turf was 1:43.63.

Appealing Cat, a 5-year-old mare by Successful Appeal  , paid $4.20 to win as the second choice in the wagering. Favored Waterway Run, at even money, loomed a winner but never had room in a tight pack and finished a close seventh and last in a tight finish. No more than 2 1/4 lengths covered the entire field at the wire.

In other Pennsylvania-bred stakes at Parx, John Trippi's Traffic Light won the $75,000 Roanoke Stakes ; Waldorf Racing Stable's Rustler Hustler won the $75,000 Banjo Picker Sprint Stakes ; Pewter Stable's Merry's Honor won the $75,000 Marshall Jenney Handicap ; and Vince Campanella's Aunt Ellipsis captured the $75,000 Teresa Garafalo Memorial Stakes .
