Tracy Pinchin's Holywell and Jacks or Better Farm's Twotwentyfive A took their respective divisions of the Florida Sire Stakes in upsets Sept. 6 at Gulfstream Park.
In the $259,500 Florida Sire Susan's Girl Stakes for 2-year-old fillies, Holywell, at 41-1, rebounded from a troubled trip in her last start to defeat Moment of Delight by a nose in 1:28.62 for seven furlongs on a fast track. Favored Leap Year Luck rallied strongly from far back in a field of 13 but had to settle for third.
Holywell, by Exclusive Quality, was bred by Pinchin and is trained by Jose Pinchin. The filly was ridden by Orlando Bocachica.
In the $252,000 Florida Sire Affirmed Stakes for 2-year-olds, Twotwentyfive A and Sing Praises gave owner/breeder Jacks or Better Farm and trainer Stanley Gold a one-two finish, though the second-place finisher was the heavy favorite. Twotwentyfive A, a 9-2 shot ridden by Abdiel Jaen, reeled in front-running Sing Praises to win by a neck in 1:26.69 for seven furlongs. Jaiden's Best checked in third.
Twotwentyfive A gave Jacks or Better Farm and Gold their 15th respective victories in the Florida Sire Stakes series. Twotwentyfive A, by Awesome of Course, entered the Affirmed Stakes off of a debut win in maiden special weight company.
The finals of the Florida Sire Stakes are set for Oct. 4 at Gulfstream.
