The three winners from last year's Washington Cup Day at
Emerald Downs returned with victories Sept. 7 on this year's day for state-breds, when an exciting 2-year-old also showcased his talent.
Noosito,
Madame Pele, and
Chu and You were all victorious in three of the day's six stakes, but the stunning juvenile
Trackattacker stole the show when remaining unbeaten in a 9 1/4-length romp in the $50,000 Daily Racing Form Dennis Dodge Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings.
R.E.V. Racing's Trackattacker sprinted clear at the start and was never threatened in an easy win under Leslie Mawing. He is undefeated in four starts by a combined 36 1/4 lengths for trainer Frank Lucarelli.
The son of Harbor the Gold--Eclatante, by In Excess, went the six furlongs in 1:09.27 as the overwhelming 1-5 favorite on a fast track. He was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Duane Hopp.
"The plan was just to get him out of the gate clean and be in command of the pace," Mawing said. "Because this is a big horse, you just want him to run free.
"He's just such a great horse to be on, mentally and physically. He does it with such ease. I tapped him one time down the lane just to make sure he's paying attention to winning the race."
Mawing also guided in Last Rose Stable's Noosito for his front-running four-length victory in the $50,000
Chinook Pass Stakes for 3-year-olds. Time was 1:35.13 for one mile. Also a son of Harbor the Gold, Noosito won last year's Dennis Dodge Stakes. He is trained by Doris Harwood.
Kama'aina Thoroughbreds' Madame Pele held off
Hastings Racecourse shipper
Castinette Dancer to win the $50,000
Pegasus Training Center Stakes for older fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles. Winner of last year's Comcast SportNet Stakes on Washington Cup Day, the 4-year-old daughter of
Salt Lake coasted to a 2 1/2-length triumph Sunday, finishing in 1:42.90. She is trained by Jim Penney.
Robert Baze's Chu and You, winner of last year's Northwest Farms Stakes, led gate-to-wire to defeat hard-trying stablemate
Mylast Sweet Pea in the $50,000
Comcast SportsNet Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. The
You and I filly won by 1 3/4 lengths and covered one mile in 1:36.06.
Washington Cup also feature victories by Swag Stables and Gallo Stable's
Mike Man's Gold (by
Liberty Gold) in the $50,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic for 3-year-olds and up and a 20-to-1 surprise by Stride for Stride Stable's
Seattles Best Copy (
Demon Warlock) in the $50,000 Northwest Farms Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.
Jockey Juan Gutierrez also rode two Washington Cup winners--Madame Pele and Chu and You--to boost his Washington Cup record to 16 riding wins.
Harwood and Penney, each with a victory on the card, remained tied for most Washington Cup training wins with eight each.
