The highly anticipated return of 2014 dual classic winner California Chrome in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II) Sept. 20 will be streamed live at AmericasBestRacing.net.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET, the 90-minute telecast from Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pa., outside Philadelphia, will be a feed of the regional broadcast produced by The Comcast Network. The $1 million Cotillion Stakes (gr. I) for elite 3-year-old fillies, and the Gallant Bob for 3-year-old sprinters also will also be shown during the live stream.
The free Pennsylvania Derby live stream can be accessed on the America's Best Racing homepage, www.AmericasBestRacing.net.
California Chrome captured the attention of sports fans across the nation this spring by winning the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I), but has not raced since finishing fourth in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I). The failed Triple Crown attempt in the June 7 Belmont is one of the highest rated televised sporting events of 2014.
Others expected to enter the 1 1/8-mile contest include Bayern, winner of the $1 million Haskell Invitational (gr. I) in July, and the top two finishers from last month's West Virginia Derby (gr. II), Tapiture and Candy Boy.
The Cotillion, meanwhile, is shaping up as a stellar race that will help determine Eclipse Award honors for champion 3-year-old filly. The field is likely to include Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) heroine Untapable, as well as multiple grade I winners Stopchargingmaria and Sweet Reason.
The Comcast Network's on-air team will consist of host Laffit Pincay III, analyst Dick Jerardi, analyst Joe Kristufek, paddock commentator Maggie Wolfendale, and features reporter Sheena Parveen.
