Undefeated Australian sprint star Black Caviar delivered her highly anticipated first foal—an Exceed And Excel filly—in the early morning hours Sept. 13 at an undisclosed location in New South Wales.
The bay filly, who has a small white marking on her forehead and small white socks on her front feet, was born without complications.
Black Caviar retired undefeated in 25 career starts following her victory in the T. J. Smith Stakes (Aus-I) in April 2013. By Bel Esprit out of the Desert Sun mare Helsinge, she won 14 group I events and is a two-time Australian Horse of the Year and champion sprinter in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Exceed And Excel, an Australian champion sire, stands for Darley.
Black Caviar's managing co-owner Neil Werrett issued the following statement on behalf of his fellow owners:
"She was a champion on the track and she's proved to be a champion mum with the safe arrival of her first foal overnight.
"We're incredibly proud that she's given birth to a filly and equally delighted that both Black Caviar and her foal are healthy and doing well.
"We wish to thank the team that have nurtured her so well throughout her pregnancy and ensured the safe delivery of the filly.
"Black Caviar was the people's horse and we are looking forward to sharing this filly's journey with the people of Australia.
"It will be a long and patient road from birth to racetrack so at this time we are revelling in the excitement of being proud parents."
