Cool Hotels Philadelphia: Bet On It

Description:

To many, Philadelphia is known for its endless homage to Ben Franklin, Philly cheesesteak, and Rocky Balboa. However, all eyes are shifting to Parx Racing this weekend, as it plays host to the return of California Chrome in the Pennsylvania Derby.
A huge race on tap. Great local food. All located in a city steeped in American history. What’s not to “Brotherly” love? Here are a few cool hotels if you’re looking to make a last minute trip to Philadelphia!

Win: The Rittenhouse
The Rate: $399
The Lowdown: If you read any literature on fine hotels in Philadelphia, you’re sure to come across The Rittenhouse. Its classic approach to interior design is undoubtedly fine and no-frills. Once the day at Parx has come to a close, you can freshen up in your room and be within walking distance to nearly all the notable museums and historical attractions. The regal Bar 210 is located in-house and is the perfect spot to unwind and recount, hopefully, your winnings.

Place: Sofitel
The Rate: $240
The Lowdown: The Sofitel brings French flare to the City of Liberty. Originally the Philadelphia Stock Exchange building, developers re-purposed the building to create an urban chic fixture that’s as trendy as wearing fascinator to the races. It is equal parts Philly and French, and the progressive vibe of the hotel fits right in with the art district it is located in.

Show: Alexander Inn
The Rate: $149
The Lowdown: Don’t let the bargain price fool you. The Alexander Inn is not your typical budget hotel. Considering its reasonable rates it’s best to label this place a “gem.” No, there’s not butler service or fine restaurant in the lobby. What you get is a homey environment that has served budget-conscious Philly travelers for many years.
