Undrafted Returns in Kentucky Downs Turf Dash

For his first start back from Europe after a fourth-place finish in the Darley July Cup (Eng-I), grade III winner Undrafted will try the European-style turf course Sept. 24 at Kentucky Downs.
Wes Welker's Undrafted figures to be one of the favorites in the $200,000 Kentucky Downs Turf Dash Stakes, where he likely will face 11 rivals as 15 horses (three are on also-eligible list) have been entered in the 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-olds and older on the short meet's closing day.
After Undrafted captured the Jaipur Invitational Stakes (gr. IIIT) June 7 at Belmont Park, trainer Wesley Ward shipped him to Newmarket, where the 4-year-old Purim gelding finished just 1 3/4 lengths behind winner Slade Power in the July Cup. Undrafted has turned in a pair of solid works this month in preparation for Wednesday's race, including a handy four-furlong move in :47 1/5 Sept. 6 at Keeneland.
Also entered Wednesday are multiple Canadian grade II winner Something Extra and Stormy Going, who will make a second start at the short meet after finishing second to Regally Ready in the More Than Ready Stakes Sept. 13.
Also Wednesday, fillies and mares 3 and older will be tested in the $200,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon Stakes. The 1 5/16-mile race has been split into two divisions.
In the 11-horse first division, Glen Hill Farm's Customer Base ships in from the West Coast and will try to secure her first win since closing out 2013 with a score in the Robert J. Frankel Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Santa Anita Park. The field also includes Cat's Claw, who extended her win streak to three straight with a clear victory in the Waya Stakes last month at August and enters off a sixth-place finish in the Glens Falls Stakes (gr. IIIT) there on Aug. 31.
Some of the fillies who figure to garner attention in the second division of the Ladies Marathon include China Horse Club's Tabreed, who enters off a solid third in an allowance race at Saratoga Race Course; and Ken and Sarah Ramsey's three-time stakes winner Always Kitten.
