Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte will appear at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Ky., Wednesday, Sept. 24, to raise funds for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund.
Turcotte, who swept the 1973 Triple Crown with the great Secretariat and won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes the previous year with Riva Ridge, will sign autographs near the track's finish line from noon-1 p.m. (CDT), and then in the clubhouse from 2-4 p.m. There is a $10 suggested donation to benefit the PDJF.
First post for the closing-day card at the unique European-style all-turf track that will distribute more than $1 million in purses daily during its five-day meet is 1:35 (CDT).
Highlighting the card are three stakes, each worth $200,000. The Kentucky Downs Turf Dash is carded at 6 1/2 furlongs, and the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon at 1 5/16 miles was split into two divisions after 23 fillies and mares were entered. In addition to the purse, the winner of each division will receive a free breeding to Crestwood Farm stallion Bullet Train .
