Description:
Khalid Abdullah's multiple group-I winning miler Kingman, who had been a candidate for the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) this fall at Santa Anita Park, has been retired and will stand in 2015 at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket.

The 3-year-old Invincible Spirit colt, who stamped himself as Europe's top miler this season when stringing together four successive group I victories, has a throat infection that has ruled him out of racing for the rest of the year.

Trained by John Gosden, Kingman ignited his group I win streak with a victory in the Tattersalls Irish Two Thousand Guineas May 24 at the Curragh, and followed up with victories St. James's Palace Stakes June 17 at Royal Ascot, QIPCO Sussex Stakes July 30 at Goodwood, and Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques Le Marios Aug. 17 at Deauville in what was to be his final career start.

"The throat infection will still need ongoing treatment which will rule out the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Eng-I in October at Ascot) and also the Breeders' Cup," said racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.

"The stud fee of the horse that has electrified European racing in 2014 will be announced by the stud when appropriate."

Kingman compiled a 7-1-0 record from eight career starts, which also includes a runner-up finish in the 2014 QIPCO Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) May 3 at Newmarket, and earned $1,607,201 in two seasons.

Kingman, bred in Great Britain, is a homebred of Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms. He was produced by Juddmonte's 2002 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (Fr-I, French One Thousand Guineas) winner Zenda (by Zamindar), a half sister to European champion sprinter and prominent Juddmonte sire Oasis Dream out of a half sister to 1993 Irish Oaks (Ire-I) winner Wemyss Bight. Kingman is a half brother of group III winner Remote.
