Wine marketing tends to push certain grapes down our throat. We’re told Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, powerful and great with steak. Certain whites work better with oysters than others, and California Chardonnay is buttery and perfectly developed for the American palate.
Yes, wine marketers, sommeliers, writers, and even consumers spin these grape stories to the point it’s sometimes difficult to find an original grape story anymore. That’s why when I spend time in other countries, I seek the wines the importers have missed, and I do my best to tell their story.
