Partisan Politics Back for Miss Grillo Stakes

About one month after winning the P. G. Johnson at Saratoga Race Course, Partisan Politics will try for a second straight stakes win when she faces an expected 11 other 2-year-old fillies in the $200,000 Miss Grillo Stakes (gr. IIIT) Sept. 28 at Belmont Park | BloodHorse.com Track Profile">Belmont Park.

After finishing a close third in a 5 1/2-furlong turf race July 21 at Saratoga in her debut, Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's Partisan Politics successfully stretched out to 1 1/16 miles in the listed P. G. Johnson, claiming her initial career win Aug. 27.

The daughter of More Than Ready   drew off in the Saratoga stretch to post a 2 3/4-length win under Javier Castellano, who will be aboard Sunday.

Partisan Politics is one of three expected starters for Chad Brown. The hot trainer will also will saddle Long Lake Stable's Tammy the Torpedo, who posted a 3 1/4-length score in an Aug. 17 debut in a 1 1/16-mile maiden race on the turf at Saratoga; and Lady Eli, a half sister to two-time grade III winner Bizzy Caroline. Sheep Pond Partners' Lady Eli won her maiden debut at the 1 1/16-mile distance Aug. 25 on the Saratoga green.

The only other stakes winner in Sunday's field is Nicky's Brown Miss, who won the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes Sept. 6. Owned and trained by Savino Capilupi, the daughter of Big Brown   secured her maiden win in that seven-furlong stakes, which marked her fifth career start.

Sunday's field also features P. G. Johnson third-place finisher Ancient Goddess, who made her U.S. debut in that race after winning a maiden race in France; and Natalma Stakes (Can-II) third-place finisher Skinner Box, who is out of a half sister to 2004 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner Better Talk Now.
