The connections of well-traveled grade 2 winner Hawksmoor hope a trip to Parx Racing will lead to the winner's circle when they start the 5-year-old Azamour mare in the $200,000 Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes (G3T) July 3.
(On July 3 Parx Racing officials opted to cancel the day's card because of excessive heat.)
Trained by Arnaud Delacour, Hawksmoor has dropped five straight races but she's been competitive, as that stretch has included three second-place finishes, including runner-up efforts to close out 2017 in the Matriarch Stakes (G1T) at Del Mar and the First Lady Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. A start at Parx would mark a seventh track in as many races for Lael Stable's Hawksmoor, who won last year's New York Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G2T).
The expected field of six fillies and mares also includes Alex G. Campbell Jr.'s Ultra Brat, who will make her first start since winning the May 19 Gallorette Stakes (G3T) by more than 10 lengths on the soft turf at Pimlico Race Course. The 5-year-old Uncle Mo mare opened the season with a clear victory in the Marshua's River Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park.
Two-time champion trainer Chad Brown will ship in Peter Brant's Fifty Five, who most recently registered a close second in the Mount Vernon Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares May 28 on the Belmont Park turf. Racing Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano will make the trip to Parx for the mount.
