The $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes drew an interesting field of eight that is led by undefeated Shared Belief, who has stretched his unbeaten record to a perfect six wins in as many starts.
He’s done everything his connections have asked of him and more.
The race looks interesting on paper because it doesn't seem that there will be a fast pace duel up front. There is no Game On Dude, and there is no “need-the-lead” horse that will challenge the speedster Mystery Train.
Mystery Train is still somewhat of a mystery. He was last seen in the Pacific Classic dueling with Game On Dude through the early part of the race before throwing in the towel and finishing a well beaten ninth in a field of 10. That was his first start in the U.S. and his first start on a synthetic surface. He was a multiple Group 1 winner on the dirt in Argentina before arriving here in August. He will now make his second start in California and returns to a dirt surface. He’s got a shot if he gets away with a relatively comfortable pace on the lead.
Fed Biz looks to have taken a step forward in 2014, and he brings a steady set of workouts on this local surface. He’s got some good tactical speed that will have him sitting in a good spot throughout, and the inside post should allow him to save some ground early in the race heading into the first turn.
MAJESTIC HARBOR WINS THE GOLD CUP AT SANTA ANITA

Gold Cup winner Majestic Harbor did not seem to care for the synthetic surface at Del Mar and looks to rebound off a disappointing Pacific Classic Stakes. Imperative always seems to pick up the pieces late. Both of these runners are hoping for a fast pace to set up their late moves.
