Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens and Chantal Sutherland-Kruse, a two-time Sovereign Award winner in her native Canada, take America's Best Racing's readers inside the jockeys' room in 2014. Stevens and Sutherland-Kruse will provide answers to all sorts of questions such as how jockeys get paid, what goes on between races, whom they admire and what type of music and fashion style they favor.

Who or what influences you? Can you give a specific example of how you have positively used that influence as inspiration?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Who inspires me? People inspire me and all kinds of people. Those who are driven and have a dream and persevere through adversity and who live with integrity. I am influenced by my environment and choose to allow positive factions of that environment to influence me. There are so many things that can influence a person - a painting, book, story, great ride, or another individual’s passion, just to name a few.
What word makes you laugh?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Fart.
If I could own any painting in the world it would be?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: “Mona Lisa”

What would you be doing if you weren’t a jockey?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Making money doing something else.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: A jockey or clinical psychologist.
What’s the best horse racing event in America for a new fan to attend?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Kentucky Derby.
If you could breed any two horses and be guaranteed to ride the progeny, which two horses would you play matchmaker for and why?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Zenyatta and Unusual Heat. … The Princess kisses the frog.
What reality show are you best suited for and why?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: “Real Housewives of Orange County” because I am one.
If I came to your home and looked inside the refrigerator, what would I find?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Chicken, veggies, Jell-O, champagne and yogurt. Oh and hot sauce … Cholula.
How many pairs of shoes you own?
SUTHERLAND-KRUSE: Too many. My husband will read this … shhhh!
