Real Steel wins the Dubai Turf at Meydan

Real Steel, winner of three graded stakes including the 2016 Dubai Turf Sponsored by DP World (G1) at Meydan, has run his last race and will start stud duty at Shadai Stallion Station in 2019, owner Sunday Racing Club announced July 3.

The 6-year-old horse by Deep Impact, bred by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm and trained by Yoshito Yahagi at Ritto Training Center near Kyoto, won four races from 17 starts including the 2015 Kyodo News Service Hai (G3) in February 2015, the Dubai Turf, and the 2017 Mainichi Okan (G2).

In addition, he finished second in the 2016 Satsuki Sho (G1) and Kikka Sho (G1), the first and third legs of the Japan Triple Crown, at 3, and was runner-up to Maurice in the 2016 Tenno Sho (G1). He earned ¥416,760,000 (approximately US$3.75 million) in Japan and $3.9 million in Dubai.

Real Steel sustained a ligament tear to his left foreleg while he was training for an autumn campaign, and his connections decided to wrap his successful career. His 2019 stud fee has not yet been determined, but it is expected to be announced around November, when Shadai usually releases fees for its stallions.

Real Steel's second dam is the great mare Miesque, who is also the second dam of QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club (G1) winner Study of Ma, and the third dam of multiple group 1 winner Alpha Centauri (IRE).
