Fall Stars Fashion on a Budget

Keeneland’s fall meet kicks off with Fall Stars weekend with some of the best horses in the nation competing at the storied Lexington, Ky. track. I’ve put together five looks perfect for a cool autumn day at the races that won’t break the bank.

Our first look is a classic perfect for spending a day finding the next winning horse over cocktails at the track. The merino turtleneck dress is $40 from Uniqlo; I added a $20 skinny belt, also from Uniqlo, as well as a fabulous felt hat for $44 from Miss Selfridge. A quilted leather jacket ($35, Black Five) and a pair of dove-gray leather booties ($28, Miss A McMahon) accent the look, as do the bowling bag ($42, Black Five) and the $28 earrings from Sperry. Complete the look by tying this plaid scarf $22, Black Five) around the straps of the handbag and you’re ready for the races at just $259 from head to toe.

I’m in love with this long-sleeved dress from Black Five; at $39 it’s a steal, and it can just as easily take you to work or class as it can to the races. I coupled it with a killer pair of boots for $40 from Wet Seal as well as a B-Collective tote for $50. Add a statement ring ($35, Michela) a pair of equestrian-inspired earrings ($25, Fornash) and a major pair of sunglasses ($19, Lullaby) and you’ve got the perfect look for a day at Keeneland for $208.

Fall is time to break out the chunky sweaters, and I’m kind of obsessed with this one from Chic Wish for $45. Layer it over a simple black camisole ($13, Uniqlo) and a high-waisted pencil skirt for just $6.99 from Body Central. The black booties are just $22 from Elegant Footwear, and I chose a bag with gold studs ($30, Body Central) that picks up on the shoes’ detailing. Throw on a layered necklace for $44 from Bauble Bar and you’re ready to go for $160.99!

Another of my favorite fall staples are fitted blazers, and I love the deep cobalt color of this version for $16 from Body Central. I added a cute gingham skirt for $16 from ChicNova, a pair of flat riding boots for $50 by Restricted and a simple white tee for $16 from the Gap. A wine-colored bag ($48, Black Five) and statement garnet necklace ($23, 14th and Union) add some unexpected elements; and a gorgeous brown watch with a faux-alligator band ($34, Lucien Piccard Bianco) and set of gold rings ($10, BooHoo.com) add sophistication. All together, this look is just $213, which should leave you plenty of extra money for a bet or two!

Our final Fall Stars look is perfect for an afternoon up on the Hill, an outdoor area at the track that caters to the tailgating set. This look is stylish, comfortable and warm, with plenty of layers so you can stay comfy as the weather changes.  The focal point of the ensemble is this fantastic oversize print cardigan for $28 by Outfit Made. Put it over this burgundy long-sleeve shirt for $24 from Maurice’s and get some shape to the look by belting the cardigan with this brown leather belt for $9.90 from Wet Seal. I added a pair of very dark green jeans ($20, Wet Seal) This oversized leather satchel from Aldo for $35 will hold all of your gear while you rove from tailgate to tailgate, and your feet will thank you at the end of the day for wearing this fantastic pair of short boots from Wet Seal ($40.) Make sure that you don’t miss post time with this $18 Go Jane watch, and top everything off with a delicate pair of $13 earrings by ModCloth. You’re ready for a fun and fashionable day on the Hill for a mere $187.90!
