This week, the horse racing world will be in full bloom with the Wednesday opening of Del Mar just north of San Diego, Calif., and on Friday the opening of Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. The term “boutique meet” is used in abundance for the two racetracks, but in my mind it kind of shortchanges the special allure of both places.
