Well Graced breaks his maiden July 26 at Penn National Race Course

Owner/trainer Erin McClellan's 2-year-old gelding Well Graced hit a double for his sire Well Spelled at Penn National Race Course July 26 when he became the freshman stallion's first starter and first winner.

Well Graced won the 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight in near gate-to-wire fashion by 3 3/4 lengths, stopping the timer in :53.48.

Godstone Farm, which stands grade 3 winner Well Spelled, bred the debut winner out of the winning Attorney mare Nancy's Grace. Judy Barrett, who owns and operates Godstone Farm near Littlestown, Pa., also bred the mare, who has produced four winners from as many foals to race.

Well Spelled, a son of Spellbinder out of Well, by Well Decorated, was bred in Kentucky by Joanne Mummert and raced by trainer Ben Perkins Jr. in the name of his GSP Stable. The colt became Well's first black-type winner, capturing the Jersey Shore Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park. Well Spelled also won the Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx Racing.

Well's success as a producer was just beginning. Her fourth foal is Kobe's Back  (by Flatter ), a three-time grade 2 winner whose three grade 1 placings included a second in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes (G1).

During a campaign in which he raced from ages 2-5, Well Spelled compiled a 4-3-4 record from 17 starts and earned $364,160. The stallion entered stud at Godstone Farm in 2015 and stood for $1,500 this year.
