A first starter became a first winner July 20 for Mr. Besilu, as the freshman sire's daughter She B Glamorous gave a good account of herself in a maiden special weight at Canterbury Park.
She B Glamorous vied for command and then set the pace in a 5 1/2-furlong test for Minnesota-bred 2-year-old fillies in her debut for Michael Grossman and trainer Francisco Bravo. She posted fractions of :23.06, :48.14, and 1:00.95 under Jareth Loveberry en route to a final time of 1:07.58 and held gamely in the final strides to turn back a challenge from Giving Tree by a half-length.
Bred by Grossman's Eureka Thoroughbred Farm, out of the Artie Schiller mare Gold N Glamore, She B Glamorous is one of nine reported foals from the first crop of Mr. Besilu, a son of A. P. Indy out of the grade 1-winning Thunder Gulch mare Balance.
Mr. Besilu was a $4.2 million purchase by Besilu Stables from Mill Ridge's consignment to the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2010, the same year his dam's half sister, four-time Eclipse Award winner Zenyatta, earned her Horse of the Year title. That price was the highest for any North American yearling since 2006 and the highest ever for an offspring of A.P. Indy.
During a career compromised by injury, Mr. Besilu raced seven times, finished third twice, and earned $11,943. He was retired to Eureka near Fredericksburg, Texas, in 2014 and entered stud there the following year for a $2,000 fee, which remains the same today.
