Woodbine Entertainment Group announced Oct. 6 an initiative to enhance its Thoroughbred allowance race program at Woodbine.

Effective immediately, until the end of the meet Sunday, Dec. 7, Woodbine will give $1,000 to the owner per ship-in starter in allowance races. Eligible horses must be stabled and trained outside Ontario.

"This new program offers many benefits for both the horseperson and the racing customer," said Woodbine vice president of Thoroughbred racing Steve Koch. "It's been our experience that out-of-town horsemen that race at Woodbine look forward to a return trip. This offer makes that travel even easier. For the racing customer, it will attract additional high quality and high profile horses, therefore delivering a more appealing wagering product."

Woodbine offers $540,000 in purses per day, including allowance purses that range from $56,000 up to over $100,000, including bonuses.
