Grade I winners Minorette and Personal Diary top a field of nine 3-year-old fillies entered for the 31st running of the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane's End (gr. IT) at Keeneland Oct. 11.
The 1 1/8-mile grass test will go as the ninth on Saturday's 10-race program with an approximate post time of 5:13 p.m. EDT. Nine sophomore fillies were entered.
Minorette earned her grade I victory in the July 5 Belmont Oaks Invitational going 1 1/4 miles at Belmont Park. In her most recent start, she finished fourth behind QEII rival Crown Queen in the nine-furlong Lake Placid (gr. IIT) Aug. 16 at Saratoga Race Course.
Trained by Chad Brown, Minorette is owned by Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith, the same partnership that owned 2011 Queen Elizabeth II winner Together. Joel Rosario, who won the 2010 QE II on Harmonious, has the mount on daughter of Smart Strike from post 2.
Brown, who saddled 2012 QEII winner Dayatthespa, also trains French import Ball Dancing, winner of the Sept. 13 Sands Point (gr. IIT) at Belmont in her United States debut. The group-placed Kentucky-bred Exchange Rate filly was fifth in her final start in France, the Prix de Diane Longines (Fr-I, French Oaks) June 15 at Chantilly.
Joe Bravo and Ball Dancing will depart post 6.
Personal Diary, trained by Victoria Oliver and owned by G. Watts Humphrey Jr. and St. George Farm Racing, enters Saturday's race off a victory in the Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) Aug. 16. The City Zip filly, who has three works over the Keeneland lawn since Sept. 18, will break from post 5 with Corey Nakatani coming in from California to ride.
Like Ball Dancing and Crown Queen, Sagamore Farm's Daring Dancer also has a grade II victory on her resume. Trained by Graham Motion, who won the 2003 QEII with Film Maker, The Empire Maker filly won the Lake George (gr. IIT) in July at Saratoga and this spring won the Appalachian (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland. Daring Dancer departs post 9 under Alan Garcia.
Completing the field are Sistas Stroll, winner of the Sept. 13 Pucker Up Stakes (gr. IIIT); Ontario Colleen Stakes (Can-IIIT) winner Speed Seeker; multiple grade III winner Aurelia's Belle; and Belmont Oaks Invitational runner-up Sea Queen.
