Description:

Three-year-old Ole's Miss, recent winner of the British Columbia Oaks, tackles older fillies and mares for the first time while making her graded stakes debut in the Ballerina (Can-III) Oct. 13 at Hastings Racecourse.

The special eight-race Thanksgiving Day (Canada) card also features the $100,000 British Columbia Premier's Handicap (Can-III). The $100,000 Ballerina, race 5 at 1 1/8 miles, is set for a 3:50 p.m. PT post.

Ole's Miss, trained by Tracy McCarthy for Canmor Farms, is the lone sophomore in the seven-horse field. The Hastings-based daughter of Officer has been a gem of consistency with five wins, two seconds, and two thirds in nine lifetime starts with $185,982 in earnings.

In her previous start Sept. 14, the Ontario-bred Ole's Miss raced in seventh before rallying wide into the stretch as the 2-1 choice to score by a head over Irish Lyric in the listed B.C. Oaks, which is also at 1 1/8 miles. She was timed in 1:50.27 over a fast track. In her lone work since, she was clocked in :58 4/5 for five furlongs Oct. 5.

Leading Hastings rider Amadeo Perez is back aboard the bay filly, who breaks from post 3 with a five-pound weight break. She carries 117.

Emerald Downs shipper Madame Pele comes off a 2 1/2-length score in the Pegasus Training Center Stakes Sept. 7 for trainer Jim Penney. Owned by Kama'aina Thoroughbreds, the 4-year-old daughter of Salt Lake also won the Mesa Handicap at Turf Paradise this season. Frank Puentes has the mount from the rail post.

The remainder of the field consists of the five starters in the Delta Colleen Handicap at Hastings Sept. 4, which was won by 3 3/4 lengths by Locket at odds of 9-1. She was timed in 1:49.54 for the 1 1/8-mile trip. Keishan Balgobin retains the mount for trainer Frank Barroby on the 4-year-old Rosberg filly.

Madeira Park, the 3-5 favorite who finished third in the Delta Colleen, is joined in the rematch by runner-up Wando Woman, Touching Promise, and Saturday Nite Ride, the likely pacesetter.
